It’s OK to splurge on these beauty products

As the holidays reach its peak, shopping opportunities emerge. We don’t know about you, but this season seems to be a good time to splurge a bit on makeup essentials, especially when stores will have year end sales. But don’t get too excited. There are things you can splurge on and things you need to scrimp on. Here’s a list to help you out.

1. Brushes

Your overall look doesn’t just depend on the type of shadows you use, it also depends on the product you use in applying these. So it follows that the better the brush, the better the results. We all know that new makeup sets (especially shadow palettes) always come with free brushes. If I were you, I’d throw these after a couple of uses.

It’s perfect timing then that Urban Decay has sale for their brushes. For instance, their Good Karma brushes such as the Optical Blurring Brush is now only $16 from $32! Discounts are also given to other brush types, such as the Blush Brush at $16 from $32, Smudger Brush, Shading Brush, Shadow Brush, and Liner Brush at $13 from $26, Lip Brush from $20 to $10, and lastly Crease Brush from $26 to $13.

2. Lipstick

Avon’s website says, “Give a woman the right lipstick, and she can conquer the world.” We could not agree more. Using the perfect lipstick gives that certain feeling of confidence and this makes women want to do and achieve more. So this holiday season, treat yourself (or your girlfriends) with a set of lipstick!

Kylie Cosmetics has the Mini Kit featuring six Matte Liquid Lipsticks (6 X 0.02 fl oz./oz. liq / 0.65 ml) all of which are Kylie’s favorite shades: Moon (taupe-y nude), Ginger (warm terracotta brown), Kristen (warm brown berry), Angel (warm pinky nude), Love Bite (rich plum brown), and Vixen (blackened vampy plum). Infused with diamond powder, these lipsticks are packaged in limited edition silver packaging, perfect for the holiday season.

You can also try Colourpop’s holiday set that includes five full-size tubes of liquid lipstick and lip gloss, which comes in three varieties: the For Fox Sake with glitzy rose golds and demure mauves, Blues Baby with a variety of burgundies, and Forever and Never that has a range of everyday neutrals and one blackened red perfect. You can also try Avon’s lippies, such as their Perfect Kiss Lipstick or Lipgloss.

3. Sale Products

Still, if you’re still undecided on what to splurge on, then just visit MAC Cosmetics’ site because they’re giving away 25% discount just by simply signing up for MAC select! If this discount doesn’t excite you, then we don’t know what would. Included in the discount are almost all of MAC’s products. They also have discount coupons until January 2017.

On the other hand, there are makeup essentials that we feel you can simply scrimp on:

1. Cleanser

Its basic function is to clean your face and it would basically be on your face for only five seconds more or less. Therefore, we say that ANY cleanser, whether expensive or not, is fine. If you have acne-prone or sensitive skin, simply look for labels that say “gentle.” We’re sure there are affordable brands out there, such as Neutrogena Transparent Facial Cleansing Bar for Acne-Prone Skin.

2. Mascara

We highly suggest that you do not splurge in mascara. They’re adorable and make our lashes look darker, longer, and thicker (like Mila Kunis’ voluminous lashes) but according to Real Simple, these tubes easily grow bacteria so your mascara tubes should be disposed of after three months.

So there you go: our splurge-able and scrimp-able mini list. Do you agree or do you have any suggestions to the contrary? Do you have any other splurge-able and non-splurge-able makeup essentials? Let us know in the comments!
