Taxis are the most important mode of transportation in Dubai. Compared to others, UAE taxis have relatively cheaper prices compared to other major cities in the world. They are managed under a well-organized system and they can be easily found in various stations.

The Dubai RTA taxi system follows a color-coded scheme, and of course each taxi is provided with a metre system. There are pink taxis driven by women and meant solely for women and small children. It promotes safety, security, and accessibility of public transport system.

Taxis in Dubai will soon have surveillance cameras to keep track of the drivers’ behavior as well as their fatigue levels. If you’re worried about your privacy, worry not! These cameras will only cover the drivers.

Beyond operational efficiency, outfitting taxis with cameras will also improve the security level for passengers, as well as aid taxi drivers in cases where they face baseless complaints. The public transportation office in Dubai also promotes a smart transportation facility, where taxis have a Global Positioning System, a tailgating alert system, and Nol and credit card payment options. It is also expected that Dubai taxis will soon have interactive LCD screens and free WIFI which will further improve the passenger experience.

The public bus transportation system in UAE aims to develop a world-class integrated transport network, safely and comfortably transporting passengers to different parts of the Emirates. It uses the Nol system, an automated card system that will make the travel experience of passengers more convenient. The card system has different options depending on your needs. Moreover, it is equipped with mobile online payment features.

RTA Dubai also has express buses that provide faster trips between emirates, saving passengers more time. These offer complimentary service for senior citizens and people with disabilities.

The bus transport system in UAE not only prioritizes the convenience of its passengers, it also recognizes its effect on traffic, environmental, and economic domains

Metros and Trams

Dubai is the only city in UAE with a tram and metro network. The Dubai Metro is said to be the city’s backbone as it transports everyone–employees, residents, tourists–all over this international business and tourism hub. It operates in the context of Smart Dubai and national happiness initiatives. It also offers driver-less systems with high degree automation, thus removing risks of human error. Both networks have gold class and women and children-only sections.

Dubai Metro accommodates visually impaired travellers. It has three means to guide the passengers to their destinations: Tactile Metal Path, Audio Announcement Intercom System, and officials and Security personnel.

Dubai Metro also offers a user-centric mobile application as an effort to promote convenience for local and foreign passengers. The app provides essential information about the metro system. It also has parking facilities where drivers can safely leave their private cars if they need to use the metro.

On the other hand, Dubai Tram is the largest city’s latest mode of public transport. Like metro trains, it has special sections for gold-class passengers and women and children. It runs in a loop and links up with Dubai Metro and the Palm Monorail. Its interconnectivity with other public transport systems has made the user experience more efficient and enjoyable. Furthermore, the Dubai Tram’s design preserves the landscape. An intrisically safe underground power supply powers the tram.

As part of boosting the tourism of UAE, Abu Dhabi came up with water taxis to improve the accessibility and connectivity among major entertainment locations in the area. Each water taxi offers comfortable seats, Wi-Fi, and a booming sound system that will guarantee both comfort and enjoyment.

In addition to the land fleet, Dubai RTA also offers another water vehicle called Abra. From the traditional wooden dhow boats, Dubai has already introduced a solar-powered Abra. This mode of transportation represents harmony in tradition, innovativeness, and sustainability. This solar powered mode of transport is one of UAE’s steps towards fully adopting the Green Economy concept.

To sum it up
